Console-ing Passions: International Conference on Television, Video, Audio, New Media and Feminism

Console-ing Passions, the leading international scholarly network for feminist research in screen cultures, will hold its 2011 conference in Adelaide, South Australia, 21-23 July.

Organisers are now seeking proposals for individual papers and pre-constituted panels. Proposals are due November 30, 2010 and may be submitted to http://www.flinders.edu.au/console-ing-passions. Paper proposals must include the paper title, the author’s contact details and a 300-word abstract. Panel proposals must include the panel title, names and contact details of all participants and chair and a summary statement of no more than 1500 words to include the abstract for each paper and a panel concept statement. Panels may have a maximum of three papers each.

Call for Hosts: Global Game Jam 2011

It’s coming. The third installment of the GGJ – Global Game Jam 2011 will take place the last weekend of January 2011 (January 28-30, 2011):

We are looking for hosts to accommodate and organize local sites of the GGJ 2011. We hope to see a lot of first-timer sites to enhance the experience and bring even more people together, creating innovative games and having a wonderful time.

CfP: 9th MAGIS Spring School – Videogames and comics Section

The 9th MAGIS Spring School, organized by the University of Udine and the University of Paris 3 – Sorbonne Nouvelle, in collaboration with their network of partners – Universities of Amsterdam, Bochum, Prague, Valencia and Milan-Catholic, Pisa and CineGraph/Hamburg – as part of the activities of International Ph.D. in Audiovisual Studies will be held in Gorizia from April 8th to April 13th, 2011. This 9th edition of the MAGIS Spring School will focus on the relationship between audiovisual forms and the notion of “The Archive”. CfP: Game Telemetry and Metrics: Maximizing the Value of your Data (book)

Game metrics has become the new buzz word within the game industry. Tons of data about players, what they do, what they pay money for, as well as data on technical performance, NPC behaviors, etc., are all suddenly at the fingertips of the industry. However, the real question is: what can you do with this type of data? What is the real value of game metrics for designers, user researchers, community managers, marketing and management? In fact, how do you know you are collecting the right data or that you are analyzing and reporting it correctly and efficiently? This book aims to answer these questions by discussing techniques and methods that are currently used by industry professionals – and thus the book will be the first resource to go to that discusses the state of the art and future of telemetry and game metrics throughout the a game company production cycle. The book will draw from both industry professionals who use telemetry and metrics within their company, or researchers and industry professionals who work collaboratively on telemetry and metrics.
