Student Computer Art Society (SCAS) presents to you the accents and the fresh news in the XX anniversary edition of the international forum for computer arts, modern media and communications “Computer Space 2008” (www.computerspace.org). “Computer Space” is a non-commercial international festival for computer arts with a prestigious international participation. This is one of the very first festivals of this particular kind in Europe with 19 editions up to now. With its multiple projects and guests “Computer Space” is the most important computer arts event in Southeastern Europe.

More than 8000 participants and projects from all over the world have taken part in it throughout the years, including: Platige Studio (Poland)- an Oscar nominee; Studio AKA (Great Britain)- a Pixar award winner; Miralab (Switzerland)- the universally acknowledged centre for graphics and animation; Maga Animation Studio (Italy); ART + CОМ (Germany); Astra Net- a famous international satellite communication company; Ars Electronica Center Linz (Austria)- a modern media and communications centre; IRCAM (France)- the centre for modern media, soundacoustics and coordination; Academy of Media Art Cologne (Germany); ZKM Karlsruhe (Germany); European Media Art Festival (Germany); Institute for Electroacoustic of Vienna University and many others- pioneers in the new technologies and modern media.

The forum consists of a competition and a festival part. The competition part comprises the following five categories – computer graphics, computer animation, offline multimedia, electronic and computer music and web design (with 5 sub-categories). The registration for the competition has already started and is for free till August, 15. The awarding ceremony will be held during the festival part of the event which is to take place from October, 31 till November, 2 in Sofia.

What’s new in “Computer Space 2008”

For its twentieth anniversary “Computer Space” has got a new website as a gift. Based on the Joomla! system with a simple, better organized and more visual interface, now the website is easier to use and pleasant to the eye.

One of the most significant improvements is the simplified registration procedure which is to be fulfilled through the website only /including projects upload/ as well as the transparent evaluation system carried out by independent experts.

You can already access all the projects – you can listen to the electronic or computer music of the registered participants, see the computer graphics, download the projects competing in the computer animation category, see websites competing in the five web design sub-categories.

Projects registration lasts till September, 15 2008 and is free till Audust, 15 2008 (www.computerspace.org). The awarding ceremony will be held during the festival part – October, 31st – November, 2nd.

Traditionally, the forum is carried out in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science, Microsoft – Bulgaria, BBS – an official Apple agent for Bulgaria, Czechs Centre, Evrika foundation as well as with the media partners “24 Hours” newspaper, “Computers” newspaper, BG development. The seminars and the show programme will be held in the Czechs Centre and Central Military Club.
